Dr Matthew Woo was formerly in the employ of the Institute of Mental Health for 19 years, and held the postion of Senior Principal Clinical Psychologist and Deputy Head of the Department of Psychology. He is the recipient of two Health Manpower Development Program fellowship awards for Community Psychiatry (Los Angeles and Chicago, in 2003) and Sex Offender Interventions (Portland, in 2010). He is also Adjunct Associate Professor with the National University of Singapore, and has been with the School of Psychology since 2006.

 

He is listed as a key contributor towards evidence based psychotherapy for the Ministry of Health (Singapore)'s 2015 edition of Clinical Practice Guidelines for Anxiety Disorders. He is also the President Elect of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitiation Reprocessing) Asia, an organisation that upholds the standards and training of EMDR across Asia. He is the founder president of EMDR Singapore in 2010-2012, and has been a facilitator with the EMDR institute since 2012.

 

His clinical experience and interests are primarily in the area of trauma, stress, anxiety and mood-related disorders. Dr Woo has published in the area of corporate stress management, and led a team of psychologists in the development of the Stress, Coping and Personality Inventory (SCOPE-i). His other publications include cross-cultural personality profiling with an emphasis on gender-related differences in the clinical population. He lectures for the National University of Singapore/National University Hospital on the Introduction to Psychotherapy program. Through the years, he has acquired a wealth of experience on facilitating and lecturing on the National Emergency Behaviour/Crisis Management courses and workshops. He specialises in EMDR therapy and mental health issues and can do a range of assessments related to personality profiling and forensic evaluations.

I have been suffering from OCD for a number of years, and I have looked for help in various places. But Dr Woo has really helped me to recover from OCD in just 1.5 years. Dr Woo’s treatment is very tailored to the problems that I encountered. I don’t feel rushed at all and he will make sure that the problem is gone before he releases you.
